God Bless Our Homeland

Puma, Ghana and Jefferson have once again delivered something special for African football, this time with the launch of the new Ghana national team kit. Spearheaded by Jefferson Osei, co-founder of Daily Paper, this campaign continues the brand's long-standing collaboration with Puma, blending football culture with African heritage in a truly authentic way. Daily Paper has been instrumental in previous Puma projects, working with African national teams as well as European clubs like Ajax Amsterdam, always infusing designs with deep cultural narratives that honor Africa and its diaspora.

The campaign for the new Ghana kit is visually stunning, captured in a style that feels raw, intimate, and deeply rooted in culture. The promotional video, shared on social media, embraces a documentary-style aesthetic, using rich, natural lighting and expressive close-ups to highlight the emotion behind the kit. The storytelling is unmistakably African, emphasizing community, pride, and legacy.

The hairstyling in this campaign is incredible—if you look closely, you’ll spot stars woven into one of the models’ hair, a subtle yet powerful nod to Ghana’s heritage. The way the video is shot brings to life the rich skin tones of Africans under the sun, highlighting the beauty of melanin. The gold of the kit shines and shimmers beautifully off the cast, a perfect reflection of Ghana’s legacy as the Gold Coast and its status as a classic African champion on the AFCON stage.

The kit itself is a masterpiece. The vibrant yellow serves as a bold celebration of Ghanaian identity, radiating African pride. While the white kit has always been a classic, this yellow iteration is striking, complementing the national colors and making a strong visual statement. At the center, the return of the iconic black star is a beautiful tribute to one of Ghana’s historic kits, ensuring that the presence of the nation stands boldly at the forefront. This element is not just a design choice—it’s a symbol of unity, strength, and the country's footballing legacy.

Jefferson Osei encapsulated the spirit of the campaign perfectly, stating, "God Bless Our Homeland. Rooted in culture. Wear the adinkra symbols with pride. Forever Ghana. 🇬🇭"

Beyond just aesthetics, this campaign represents something deeper—the importance of African creativity in African stories. Too often, we have seen European and American companies take charge of African kit rollouts, missing key cultural nuances in their narratives. Puma’s decision to collaborate with homegrown talent is a crucial step in ensuring authenticity and ownership in storytelling. By entrusting African creatives with this launch, Puma reinforces its long-standing commitment to the continent and its footballing culture.

This campaign is more than just about a kit—it’s a movement. It’s a celebration of Ghana, of African identity, and of the powerful connection between football and culture. Big up to Puma and Daily Paper for once again delivering a project that truly understands and honors the spirit of African football.

“My goal for this kit was to connect people from all Ghanaian ethnic tribes domestically and in the diaspora, to bring back the love and unite the tribes as one. My design was heavily influenced by conversations with the players of the Black Stars, my family, the local people, and the current political climate, highlighting their desire to see a unified Ghana."
