Patta Kits Through the years

iPatta Patta 〰️
I first spotted Patta on my close friend who had just come back from playing in Amsterdam, not football but rather a gig, he’s a dj and spoken word artist. You know some people show how well travelled they are certain aspects of their lives like tattoos, collectables, instagram, but with my homie it’s always been with the fashion, trust that after a trip overseas we gonna see him in the freshestt gear that’s definitely not in the country, can’t get can’t tholakal. My mans is never at a loss for words, yet as cool as my friend is that day his t-shirt was mad loud without him having to say much. One of the things that caught my eye was the combination of strong typography and bold graphics, and obviously the message, at a glance the prints are like the work of the high almighty living lord of design, Paula Scher. I was like damn this tee is audacious. The brand grew on me and I guess I fell in love when I discover they had been dipping their toes in football kits. It’s refreshing to the football world, and lovely cross over between culture and football. Even the name seems to strikes a few chords in South Africa, since it’s o close to the iconic song, Pata Pata by Miriam Makeba. I only mention this because some people tend to think its a South Aah brand, well before we go into collection let’s get into habit of groove.

"Pata Pata" is the name of a dance we do down Johannesburg way.
And everybody starts to move as soon as "Pata Pata" starts to play.

Patta x Appelsap Festival 2019
This one come through with a bold front facing logo surrounded by world flags. One got caught up in a comment section on Hype Beast on a topic which included a lotta mixed views on this kit. Particularly about the consistency of the brand’s collaborations, though I do feel that this is a good festival kit.
This dropped in 2019 but I would love to see the return of this in 2026, it seems to have a strong World Cup feel, almost like a diaspora team kit.
Patta x Umbro Two Way Football Jersey

Patta x Umbro Two Way Football Jersey
One of the early Patta and Umbro collections, this seems like a build up up to the 2022 Ajax and Patta kit, in terms of the relationship. This kit comes through in a very cold Dutch like design, hard lines with geometric shapes on the bottom half going through to the back. Feels like a mash of two kits which is made up of two "away" styles, one drawn from the 1989-1990 season that showcases a geometric design in a blue, red and white, the other, from the 1993-1994 season. I’m a fan of tech company logos on how the appeared on football jersey in the 80’s and 90’s, like JVC, Sharp, Sony, so seeing the TDK logo being replaced by the Patta one is the only let down.

A rework of the 1993/94 Inter Milan away jersey, kept clean and true to its form, the only difference are the crest and sponsor logo. A super elegant kit. This style came back in the 2020’s with Man City.

NR x Patta The No. 10 Azzurri Blue Jersey
Patta teams up with NR, Nicola Raccuglia an ex-football player. NR was technical sponsor of numerous Italian football teams in the 80s, This is simply one of the most iconic jerseys out there, one that’s truly stood the test of time and style. Be it because of the simple design and amazing choice of azzurri blue that matches the jerseys elegance, or is it because of the iconic Maradona who we associate this kit with. This one takes inspiration from the kits worn by Italian football club Naples during its UEFA Cup-winning, Maradona-lead ‘88-’89 season, the jersey blends Patta’s signature streetwear flair with NR Ennerre’s knack for authentic athletic quality. The front of the jersey sees the sponsor replaced with Patta branding, and features NR embroidered appliqué as well as a Patta Panther patch. The back of the shirt is decorated with the since-retired number 10 in white fabric, sewn on with a zig zag stitch.

NR x Patta The No. 10 Away Jersey
Following the azure blue jersey, the red away jersey makes this collection strong and consistent. Looking back at the days when football Jerseys had solid distinct colours with their home and away jerseys, something that seems to have disappeared in modern kit designs, Adidas seems to be the only brand upholding those rules to their designs and season roll outs. This red one is inspired by the away kit Italian football club Naples wore during their ’89-’90 season, when they won their second Scudetto, guided by the season’s topscorer Diego Armando Maradona. This one is for the purists at heart, those who care not for silly diving antics in modern football, those who who aren’t moved by the modern indulgence of patterns and graphics on shirts, this is not a desperate design for a third or fourth kit option with only the intention to flood the retails stores before a start of the new season. None of that kit clout chasing designs here, simply and pure. The type that Pep would wear.

Ending it off with this wild collection from 2019. These two kits are total contrast, not for the faint hearted I must say. The first kit is a is bold, but with some elements of the hoop design coming through and certainly not one of your traditional colours for football. It features 3 panels each with an amazing functional design. The top third is a striking pink holding the two badges the chest, by the way the rainbow logo really compliments the running team cat crest on the right. Looking at the stars on top the crest it seems like Patta has worn 5 World Cups 😅 . The middle is hard blocked out black stripe, which brings out the Patta logo straight up in your face. All balanced by the white bottom half with some organic illustrations. The flowers I must say bring an element of softness to this hard edged kit.
Ending it off with a song that’s relevant to the running team cat and the friend who likes donning the Patta brand.
